FutureNet to Showcase Next-Generation Services & Networks
56%of Enterprises View MPLS as WAN Technology Choice
NEW YORK, NY -- April 30, 2007 – MPLS is the WAN technology of choice for 56% of enterprises, according to Nemertes Research’s Building the Successful Virtual Workplace benchmark. VPLS, carrier Ethernet, and optical-based services are also on the watch lists of staffs that must build robust networks capable of supporting multiple traffic types.
These WAN technologies are the theme of various presentations from Nemertes at this week’s FutureNet 2007 conference (formerly MPLScon), held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel here from April 30 - May 3.
“IT executives view MPLS as the technology to support the convergence of different traffic types and priorities,” says Robin Gareiss, executive vice president and senior founding partner for Nemertes Research. Gareiss will speak about how enterprises are connecting their growing number of branch offices in the FutureNet session: “Branch Office Trends: What are Enterprises Buying and Why?” She will explore key findings on MPLS, VPLS, Ethernet and network optimization with data from the recent benchmark that included discussions with 120 IT executives.
The Building the Successful Virtual Workplace benchmark examines WANs and branch-office infrastructure, convergence projects, collaboration and unified-communications best practices, and mobility strategies. With branch offices growing at 11% annually, and 83% of organizations running virtual workplaces, it’s imperative for IT staffs to build robust networks, Gareiss says. She will detail analysis and recommendations during the session.
FutureNet also will showcase end-user case studies from enterprises and service providers, providing real-world insight into challenges and lessons learned.
