Alteva's FMC Addition Underscores the Need for Anywhere Connectivity

Privately held Alteva announced the release of Alteva Anywhere, adding fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) capabilities to its hosted VOIP service. The offering extends a user's personal call features to multiple fixed and mobile devices, integrating across all legacy and 2G/3G/4G architectures. This move underscores the need for flexible communication options and nterest in FMC, as more employees work from multiple locations. Nemertes finds interest in hosted VOIP is still relatively low, with only 13% of all size organizations and 20% of SMBs saying they will use hosted VOIP in the next year. One of the big drawbacks is the limited feature sets typically offered by a hosted service. FMC capabilities is an important differentiator. Nemertes' Hosted VOIP Market Analysis reveals just a few providers including; Packet8 (NASDAQ:EGHT), privately held Intelliverse, and Orange Business (France Telecom (ADR:FTE) include FMC with their service today.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Make sure you have a mobility strategy in place that includes integration. Evaluate providers that offer mobile device support.

Vendors: To stay competitive, your future plans must include mobility integration.

Investors: This move puts competitive pressures on FMC vendors including privately held DiVitas, OnRelay and CounterPath (TSX-V:CCV).
