DiVitas and Avaya Meet Need to Take UC Mobile

Privately held DiVitas Networks and Avaya have teamed to deliver a fixed-mobile convergence solution to integrate cell phones with unified communications applications across WiFi and cellular networks. This move underscores the growing desire of enterprise IT managers to leverage FMC to reduce operating costs and improve capabilities of mobile users.

Nemertes finds nearly 60% of research participants have a mobility strategy built around the need to offer seamless access to back-office applications across a variety of mobile devices. Sixty-five percent of participants say that mobile applications save time, money, or both. Fifty-four percent are integrating mobile device support into their UC plans. Solutions, including the DiVitas/Avaya partnership, provide new opportunities for IT architects to incorporate mobile device use into their UC plans.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Carefully evaluate UC partners on their ability to support UC application access across a broad range of mobile devices.

Vendors: Make sure your UC applications are accessible from mobile devices. Deliver solutions that easily bridge the mobile, WiFi, and wired worlds.

Investors: Keep your eye on Avaya/DiVitas competitors including CounterPath (TSX-V:CCV), privately held OnRelay, and VOIP/UC vendors offering mobility solutions including Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU), Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), Nortel Networks (OTC:NRTLQ), and ShoreTel (NASDAQ:SHOR)
