NEC's UC Offerings Underscore Demand for Collaboration From Organizations of All Sizes
Recently, NEC Unified Solutions, Inc.(NIPNF.PK), unveiled two new unified communication offerings: UC for Enterprise Collaboration, a video and Web conferencing and collaboration application; and Hosted Collaboration, a web-based version aimed at SMBs. This underscores growing enterprise interest in both on-premise and hosted UC to collaborate with distributed co-workers and clients.
Nemertes' finds that despite budget cuts and the rising cost of travel, only 39% of organizations have policies in place to promote the use of video conferencing. Although some have very strict travel and meeting policies, the majority strongly encourage and promote use of conferencing but do not mandate it.
Impacts:
Enterprises: Consider mandating use of conferencing to replace travel. Vendors: Reductions in travel budgets are happening across the board, so offer conferencing options meeting the needs of all organization sizes.
Investors: This puts competitive pressure on web and desktop video providers including IBM (NYSE:IBM), Microsoft (NYSE:MSFT), Tandberg
(OSL:TAA), and privately held Sightspeed, Avistar and Skype.
