8x8 Adds To SIP Trunking Momentum

8x8 (NASDAQ:EGHT) recently launched Packet8 Virtual Trunking, a new SIP
Trunking service that is focused on small businesses. This move demonstrates the
growing opportunities for small businesses to take advantage of IP-based
communications service to reduce operating costs and improve call-routing
flexibility.

Thirty-three percent of IT executives participating in the Nemertes'
benchmark, Advanced Communication Services, say their organizations are
either deploying or planning to deploy SIP trunking services.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Evaluate SIP trunking as a way of reducing PSTN access charges,
eliminating the need for on-premise gateways, and to take advantage of features
such as the ability to route incoming calls to contact centers or major office
locations.

Vendors: Service providers ought to have a SIP trunking strategy that
supports the SIP Forum's SIPconnect interoperability standard. Make sure your
services address growing management and security concerns.

Investors: Keep your eye on companies such as Acme Packet (NASDAQ:APKT) as
well as privately held Covergence, and Sipera, who are developing security and
management solutions to support SIP trunking deployment.
