Flying By Wire: Q-layer Provides Virtualization Management
in the Cloud

Privately held Q-Layer has announced Delegation Manager, a solution that
manages provisioning of virtual server, storage and network resources for cloud
computing. In Nemertes' upcoming Virtualization benchmark, participants
state orchestration of virtualized resources is a requirement of utility
computing, and not having the right solution is seen as a potential stumbling
block on the path to virtualization success.

Impacts:

Enterprises: As enterprises virtualize data centers, cloud computing is
becoming an in-house reality. Plan for orchestration solutions early in the
virtualization lifecycle.

Vendors: Cloud computing solutions need strong provisioning management to
meet SLAs, scalability requirements and to compete in an increasingly
competitive marketplace.

Investors: Orchestration of virtualized resources is critical for cloud
computing providers and virtualization platforms. Last year, VMWare (NYSE:VMW)
bought orchestration software provider Dunes and BMC (NYSE:BMC), Cisco
(NASDAQ:CSCO), HP (NYSE:HP) and Unisys (NYSE:UIS) offer virtualization
orchestration, today. Companies like Q-Layer will not remain independent for
long.
