Glasshouse Virtual Environment Services
Last week, privately held GlassHouse Technologies announced a suite of
managed-service offerings for virtual environments that will be available later
this year. Services are delivered via a single-pane management interface
utilizing privately held Tek-Tools Virtualization Management software. This
VMware-(NYSE: VMW) focused offering provides monitoring and reporting
capabilities that let users track system configurations and manage utilization.
Preliminary findings from Nemertes' Virtualization research show
nearly 80% of organizations have deployed virtualization on customer-facing
servers, but at this time, they still consider themselves to be partially
deployed. Configuration, performance, change, and resource management will all
be critical issues as organizations try to manage their virtualized
infrastructures.
Impacts:
Enterprises: Consider third-party management solutions for virtualization,
especially if running a complex hybrid physical-virtual environment.
Vendors: Users will be looking for more management solutions as they extend
their virtualized infrastructure into the cloud.
Investors: The market for managed virtualization services for multi-platform
infrastructures is still wide-open. Watch for increased managed virtualization
offerings as additional vendors gain market share.
