Google Search Appliance

Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) new enterprise search appliance capable of indexing
10 million documents raises the bar for such applications. Using a search
interface with which most Web-enabled employees are familiar, greatly reduces
the overhead associated with deploying the solution.

In Nemertes' Unified Communications and Collaboration research, 73% of
enterprises are deploying or planning to deploy enterprise search functions in
the next three years.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Search just got easier. Now it the time to examine the benefits
of this technology.

Vendors: Although Google interoperates with social-networking vendors such as
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MFST) and IBM (NYSE: IBM), this solution is a direct threat
to both. Expect Google's announcement to spur a competitive response.

Investors: Enterprise search is catching on with enterprises. Watch for
vendors who are moving to satisfy demand in this area, including privately held
Jive Software, Leverage Software, and Connectbeam.
