IBM Eases e-Discovery Workflow

IBM (NYSE:IBM) has announced an e-discovery workflow solution based on an
Enterprise Content Management (ECM) approach. The goal of the eDiscovery Manager
solution is to facilitate the workflow and mechanics associated with
e-discovery.

As we will discuss in the forthcoming Nemertes' e-Discovery + ESI =
e-Challenges
issue paper, e-discovery - in light of the Federal Rules of
Civil Procedure (FRCP) - is tied to any electronically stored information (ESI).
Essentially, ESI is considered discoverable, which greatly increases the
complexity and reach of both e-discovery and the associated workflow.

Impacts:

Enterprises: First assess your ESI and then focus on the workflow to manage
e-discovery. Following an ECM approach may be an excellent way to go.

Vendors: E-Discovery is a logical extension of ECM and workflow/collaboration
applications.

Investors: The merging of ECM and e-discovery is natural. Lkely, e-discovery
acquisition candidates include, privately held CT Summation, EED, Index Engines,
and Zylab.
