Monitoring the Global Cyber Threat to Improve Local Response
TippingPoint Security (NASDAQ:COMS) announced a service for customers to
compare their vulnerability posture against the global cyber-threat. As threats
become more coordinated and sophisticated, the need to quickly differentiate a
threat from a false alarm becomes more important, yet more complex. Only
one-third participants in Nemertes' Security and Information Protection
benchmark can identify a security event from a false alarm in less than 5
minutes, on average; the rest can take up to 2 hours.
Impacts:
Enterprises: IT staffs should evaluate this service and its value to their
vulnerability management.
Vendors: Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) vendors should
consider integration with TippingPoint or developing competitive offerings.
Investors: The IPS market is ripe for similar solutions developed either
organically or through alignment with service providers such as AT&T
(NYSE:ATT), BT/Counterpane (NYSE:BT), Symantec (NASDAQ:SYMC), Versign/iDefense
(NASDAQ:VRSN) and Verizon Business (NYSE:VZ).
