Sprint Xohms Ahead 

This week Sprint (Sprint (NYSE: S) officially launches its Xohm WiMAX service
in Baltimore. This service, which offers wireless download speeds up to 4 Mbps,
starts at $25 a month per wireless modem.

Nemertes' Advanced Communications Services benchmark shows that WiMAX
can be an effective technology for business use as a fixed wireless backup for
wired networks: 23.5% of benchmark participants are deploying or evaluating
WiMAX, primarily as a backup to their MPLS deployments.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Keep an eye on the Xohm network as backup transport for your
network.

Vendors: Xohm will pose a competitive threat if Sprint can deploy it quickly.
Keep an eye on the market acceptance.

Investors: This is Sprint's last chance to get it right. If Xohm fails Sprint
might be looking for merger options.
