Toshiba Extends VOIP to Large Enterprise

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TOSBF) announced the release of its
Strata CIX 1200 VOIP solution, aimed at midsize to large companies. The system,
which supports 200-1,000 users, doubles the capacity of Toshiba's existing
systems and can be networked for up to 128 sites to accommodate larger capacity
or distributed configurations.

This offering not only expands Toshiba's reach to large enterprises, it
allows upgrade opportunities for its installed base. Customers can reuse
telephones and almost all system interface cards.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Toshiba's competitive price points and customization tools are
compelling enough to add them to the short list.

Vendors: Differentiate your offering. Companies on average are evaluating 3-4
vendors before making their selection.

Investors: VOIP vendors once focused on SMBs, such as Toshiba and ShoreTel
(NSDQ: SHOR), are moving into the large-enterprise space, potentially impacting
Avaya (NYSE: AV), Cisco Systems (NSDQ: CSCO), and Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT).
