Wi-Fi Drive-Thru - Would You Like Spies with That?

Privately held Chrysler LLC is offering mobile WiFi starting in late August,
turning cars into mobile hotspots.

Mobile data device adoption is on the rise: Within organizations that offer
wireless devices, 23% of employees have them, up from 13.8% in 2006, according
to Nemertes' Advanced Communications Services benchmark. The trouble is
that only 20% of participants in Nemertes' Security and Information
Protection
benchmark say security teams support mobile platforms. This is a
concern, particularly since this offering involves employee-centric mobile hot
spots, potentially parked in the building.

Impacts:

Enterprises: For road warriors - who still use the road - involve your
security teams. Also, evaluate service agreements; there are alternatives.

Vendors: This could jump start a mobile data communication market, including
integration with remote sensors, GPS, and even Green IT applications.

Investors: EV-DO router vendors, including Kyocera (NYSE:KYO), Linksys
(NASDAQ:CSCO), and privately held CradlePoint and Teldat3G may see a boost.
