Nemertes Impact Analysis: AT&T "Mobility Bundle" Highlights Virtual Workplace's Reliance on Wireless

Mobility and wireless strategies are becoming integral components of enterprises' strategic initiatives in 2007. According to Nemertes' "Building the Successful Virtual Workplace" research benchmark, enterprises anticipate a whopping 421% growth (on average) in the number of wireless devices deployed over the next 12 months.

But many companies struggle with the fact that carriers often treat wireless services as wholly distinct offerings, with "silo-ed" wireless and wireline sales forces, separate minimum annual revenue commitments (MARCs) and little-to-no integration with landline offerings (despite a growing demand for wireless backup and remote-access offerings).

AT&T (NYSE: T) clearly aims to address those challenges with its recently introduced "mobility bundle." The service offering extends wireless and wireline services to business customers (including SMBs) under a single contract. The offer provides service discounts based on wireline or wireless calling volumes, on-net pricing for wireline-to-wireless calling, and cellular access to corporate VPNs using either WiFi or AT&T wireless data services.
