All The Network You're Entitled To Use: Rohati Systems Network Based Entitlement Management

Privately held Rohati Systems announced its "Transaction Networking System,"
a session- and transaction-aware application security proxy appliance for nearly
any networked application.

Increasing awareness of data leaks and insider threats have raised concern
about identity and access management among IT executives; more than 25% of
participants in Nemertes' benchmark, Security and Information Protection,
identified it as a 2008 spending priority. By embedding role-and
identity-based access control invisibly in the network, Rohati simplifies
implementation of role-based access control systems.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Embedding entitlement enforcement in the network can solve
security problems for SOA, Web 2.0, and legacy applications -- explore the
option!

Vendors: Rohati, like Cisco's planned TrustSec architecture, moves
server-based security function into the network. Have a strategy for moving your
own security products into the network.

Investors: Rohati's approach challenges connector- or client-based solutions,
such as those from Tipping Point (NASDAQ:COMS), Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL), Oracle
(NASDAQ:ORCL), and Sun (NASDAQ:JAVA)

SOA Software Moves Up Governance Food Chain: Acquires LogicLibrary

Integrating Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) design-time and SOA runtime
governance, privately held SOA Software has acquired LogicLibrary. As
organizations move their SOA from development to production, the need for
seamless SOA governance is increasing.

A key aspect of governance is tracking developer metrics underscored by
Nemertes' finding in the Service-Oriented Architectures and Applications
benchmark, that 60% of participants don't have developer efficiency metrics
in place. Adding stronger design-time governance helps organizations rectify
this situation.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Effective SOA governance must bridge development and operations.
Look for tools that help bridge the gap.

Vendors: SOA governance vendors must extend their governance solutions to
cover design-time and runtime; supporting only one is becoming a non-option.

Investors: SOA governance is an emerging marketplace. Look for consolidation
as larger players such as IBM (NYSE:IBM), Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) and HP (NYSE:HPQ)
extend their governance reach.

HP and EDS Grow Services Wealth

Last week HP (NYSE: HPQ) announced its planned acquisition of large
outsourcing competitor EDS (NYSE: EDS). This move will more than double the size
of HP's services business, positioning them in the number two spot behind IBM
Global services. This move highlights the growth of IT managed and professional
services.

Fifty-three percent of participants in Nemertes' upcoming benchmark,
Unified Communications and Collaborations, are using, or plan to use,
some form of outsourced service at the branch.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Reassess your outsourcing strategies, particularly if your
current strategy includes EDS and HP. Review SLAs to make sure the acquisition
does not negatively affect service levels.

Vendors: Evaluate this move for potential channel disruption. It could open
up new opportunities for existing channel partners.

Investors: This deal could lead to possible consolidation or acquisition of
players such as Infosys Technologies Ltd: (NASDAQ: INFY), Cognizant Technology
Solutions Corp. (NASDAQ: CTSH), Dimension Data (LSE:DDT)

OASIS Aims To Support Growing Interest in Integrating Unified Communications and SOA

OASIS (the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information
Standards) formed OASIS Telecom to integrate Service-Oriented Architectures and
telecommunications applications, supporting the need of enterprise IT architects
to integrate their UC applications with their SOA initiatives.

Half the participants in the Nemertes benchmark, Service Oriented
Architectures and Applications,
are integrating their unified communications
applications into their SOA, while 79% are evaluating or deploying tools to
integrate collaborative applications into their SOA.

Impacts:

Enterprises: Integrate UC/collaboration plans in your SOA strategy. Look to
improve business processes by leveraging the efforts of OASIS Telecom as well as
vendor-specific initiatives

Vendors: Develop a strategy for integrating your UC products and services
into enterprise SOAs. Consider participating in OASIS Telecom

Investors: Most major UC vendors are supporting OASIS Telecom. Look for
opportunities among software vendors to build bridges between SOA and UC
including Oracle | BEA (NASDAQ:ORCL), IBM (NYSE:IBM), and Microsoft
(NASDAQ:MSFT).

Fill it to the RIM...

Proving that three letter acronyms naturally go together, IBM (NYSE: IBM)
announced at the RIM (Nasdaq: RIMM) conference last week that is porting many of
its Lotus collaboration applications to BlackBerry.

Enterprise adoption of BlackBerry increased by more than 800% from 2006-2008
according to the Nemertes' benchmark, Advanced Communication Services,
with IT executives shifting their focus toward delivering applications to
improve mobile worker productivity.

Impacts:

Enterprise: Business-class mobility applications are now available. IT
executives should check these out: they're slick.

Vendors: Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) approach to mobility now has some viable
competition. Mobility application vendors should take a look at the Lotus
architecture.

Investors: The popularity of Blackberries in business will likely drag IBM
applications into the mobile work force. Investors should watch both IBM and RIM
for potential bumps in market demand.

Mobility Planning is a Moving Target...

IBM (NYSE: IBM) is experimenting with 60 gigahertz level Wi-Fi technology.
Compared to current 2.4 gigahertz technology, this will enable several orders of
magnitude increases in throughput.

Only 40% of IT executives participating in the Nemertes benchmark,
Building the Successful Virtual Workplace, had a mobility strategy. Many
participants say that confusion over evolving wireless standards prevents them
from developing viable mobility strategies. IBM's introduction of yet another
technology will further complicate long-term planning until 60-Ghz technology is
standardized by the IEEE 802.15.3c working group.

Impacts:

Enterprise: Enterprise executives should construct mobility strategies that
allow for the evolution of technology.

Vendors: IBM has the mass to push new technology into the market. Wifi
infrastructure vendors such as Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Juniper (Nasdaq: JNPR)
should keep an eye on IBM.

Investors: Adoption of standards based on the 60 gigahertz technology will
drive additional growth in the wifi market. Watch the big vendors as this
technology achieves market potential.
