Sun Setting, but Still Flashes of Brilliance

Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA ) and HP (NYSE: HPQ ) announced that a Java
agent would be integrated into HP's new iPAQ smart phone. The iPAQ will be
delivered in versions compatible with most of the current 3G standards.

Nemertes tracks the evolution of open standards for wireless and believes
that open standards will be a significant driver of wireless data growth. Java,
with its open source community signals yet another move in this direction. It
also signals that Sun is still groping its way to becoming a services company
rather than a hardware company.
