Communications and Computing 2009 Benchmark: IT Organizational Trends

August 17, 2009

Dickens could have very well been describing the current state of IT when he wrote, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” Never before has IThad the ability to transform the way an organization does business as it does today. Unfortunately, current economic conditions have put the brakes on many initiatives, and cutbacks have forced decreased spending across the board. The pressure is on to trim costs—dramatically and quickly. Business leaders are mandating all groups tighten their budgets, requiring IT leaders to do more with less staff, budget and internal expertise. This leaves IT decisionmakers struggling to assess priorities and find more efficient ways to deliver services. Often it’s a huge challenge, as they support an increasingly dispersed and demanding workforce that depends on IT support to stay connected to the rest of their team, partners and most importantly, customers.
