January 10, 2012

Nemertes Impact Analysis:

Mobile application developers can soon leverage their own association – the Application Developers Alliance (ADA) –to gain support, promote collaboration and generate advocacy within governments. Additionally, members can access a support group that will provide programming/trends/platform education and certification, product testing and hosting provided via Rackspace (NYSE:RAX). The group’s initial focus will be on iOS, Android and BlackBerry. This will provide a support structure for enterprise-focused developers, who have consistently emphasized regulatory compliance and mission critical levels of service. Fifty-four percent of enterprises consider mobility when developing applications, indicating the continuing importance of mobile apps within the workplace. The group will announce its inception at the upcoming CES (Consumer Electronics Show) January 10-13, 2012.

Impacts:

Enterprise: Have your mobility/application development team review the alliance’s advantages specific to them and weigh them vs. possible membership costs.

Vendors: Reach out to the ADA for partnership and certification opportunities.

Investors: Rackspace (NYSE:RAX) may be positioning themselves as the de-facto standard for mobile application hosting.
