Quarri Web Security on Android Underscores Rise of Virtual, Mobile Desktop
Nemertes Impact Analysis:
Privately held Quarri has released its web security and data leak prevention software for Android, underscoring the rising use of mobile platforms for access to enterprise systems - and the importance of risk mitigation on them. The Quarri solution seeks both to protect enterprise users from web-borne threats such as certificate forgery and contaminated browser extensions, and also to control user behavior e.g. to prevent copying protected data. More than two thirds of enterprises support Android devices now, or plan to support them by 2012.Reliable and flexible security and data protections will be key to mitigating the accompanying risks of using such devices.
Impacts:
Enterprises: If you are putting Android devices in the hands of staff, evaluate the risks created and how best to mitigate them.
Vendors: Android security will be increasingly important as platform adoption continues to spread; if your security tools can apply, then you should make sure they do--soon.
Investors: Mobile device management vendors, including privately held MobileIron and Good, have the most to lose from a broadening security market for Android.
