Impact Analysis: Internet Optimization Service (Not Product) Addresses Performance Problems

Globalization of businesses, data-center consolidation, and the rise in remote workers have made networks more complex. As organizations rely on the Web to transmit documents over long distances, Internet circuit congestion and TCP limitations result in degraded performance, leading companies to consider network-optimization technologies.
Several vendors are addressing this challenge with products, but Internap Network Services Corp. (AMEX: IIP) is the first to offer a service. With its BusinessNet Service, once a customer’s traffic reaches Internap’s network exchange points, route-optimization technology directs traffic along the best-performing link (among multiple carriers) at that moment in time. It also uses TCP acceleration to eliminate acknowledgements inherent in the protocol.
