He has spoken on subjects including hybrid service delivery, the new data center and the private cloud; SDN and NFV; big data and its impact on IT and on the data center and network; security; and desktop virtualization. John writes frequently for Network World, Tech Target, and other media sources.
As a research analyst and consultant, John draws on his past and current experience as a practitioner and leader in IT to better understand the needs of IT executives and the challenges facing vendors trying to sell to them. His experience has given him broad and deep knowledge in computing, communications, and IT management.
John’s IT experience includes enterprise architecture and directing the voice and data networking, desktop support, and central systems management groups at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN). John also directed central systems, networks, and desktop support at The College of St. Catherine (now St. Catherine University, St. Paul, MN), and supported the engineering faculty in their application of IT to teaching and research at The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD).
John holds a master’s degree in the history of science and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, both from The Johns Hopkins University.
